Schools Make Mosaics
Mosaics were the “in” thing to do at two schools in Cook County this spring. Students at both Birch Grove Community School with its art teacher Natalie Shaw, and Jana Larson’s 4th graders at Sawtooth Elementary School have been working with mosaic expert Kelly Dupre to create beautiful mosaics about the North Shore.
Canadian Mounties Ride to Schroeder
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are coming to the Cross River Heritage Center—in paint, at least. Eight different paintings of the famous red-jacketed law enforcement officers created by Arnold Friberg will be on exhibit at the Cross River Heritage Center starting May 28. The opening reception is June 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Painting in Narnia
Painter Don Lessard smiles every time he goes into his studio. It’s a secret room he calls “Narnia” and the only way to reach it is by opening a closet door, drawing back the clothing hanging there and turning the knob on a door hidden behind. Inside is a great window for north light, an easel and his oil paints—a perfect place for this talented painter to weave his magic.
