September Arts!
September on the North Shore is always packed with art events, music festivals, plays and more. At the top of the list is the Art Colony’s Plein Air Festival, WTIP’s Radio Waves Music Festival, North House Folk School’s Unplugged and the Crossing Borders Tour & Sale, but there are lots of other events happening this month, too.
August Arts!
Festivals, art shows, music and more are on the calendar for August and this year, so the heart of summer on the North Shore should be exciting.
July Arts!
July is festival month in Cook County. First up is the “Fun in Functional Art” at the Last Chance Gallery in Lutsen July 2-3. The opening reception is Friday from 5-7 p.m. The event continues on Saturday with art demonstrations and displays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featured artists include Beth Blank, fiber art; Tom Christiansen, bronze sculptures; Joan Farnam, ceramics; Anna Hess, painting and Judie Johnson, basketry.
June Arts!
The Scandinavian Art Show opening May 28th kicks off the Memorial Day celebrations in Cook County. There are all kinds of activities planned, from hikes on the mountain trails to sailing on the Hjordis, from great art opportunities to a chance to listen to lots of live music. Sivertson Gallery, for example, will have live music from 5-7 p.m. Friday; on Saturday Last Chance Gallery in Lutsen has a special event with live jazz with Chris Gillis from 1-5 p.m. and demonstrations with Nancy Daley, Anna Hess and Tom Christianson.
NorthShore ArtScene: May 2010
The Grand Marais Playhouse kicks off its 40th season with a swashbuckling story of intrigue, revenge and piracy— "Treasure Island." Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, "Treasure Island" features such characters as 14-year-old Jim Hawkins (Sean MacDonell), Long John Silver (Jackson Nickolay) , Billy Bones (Micheala Peterson), Israel Hands (Sarah Warren), Anne Bonney (Sarah O’Phelan) and Blind Pew (Maria Nickolay).
