The Crossing Borders Studio Tour and Sale has more artists than ever participating this year. It concludes on Sunday, Oct. 4. The tour features artists who live and work on the North Shore, including Ontario, and begins from just outside of Duluth and ends in Grand Portage, where bead artist Marcie McIntire has her studio, Ningii-Ozhitoomin.
NorthShore ArtScene: September
The Plein Air Competition at the Grand Marais Art Colony is Aug. 28-Sept. 6 this year. This is the seventh year of the popular fall event and during the week, one can see artists all over town sitting in front of their easels painting what they see. The event includes a Night-Time Paint Out after dark and a Quick Paint, as well as a week to work on other paintings. The deadline to finish all work is Friday, Sept. 4, followed by a Fish Fry ($10 registered artists, $15 general public) and artist’s reception at the Art Colony from 5-7 p.m. The awards ceremony is that evening with paintings on exhibit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. August is the month that make summers on the North Shore unforgettable, and this year is no exception. Picnics and pow-wows, art shows and concerts are just a few of the events planned in August.

Art festivals and live music are the hallmarks of July in Cook County.First up is the Hovland Art Festival at the Hovland Town Hall July 4-5.
