Satellite’s central location on the Hwy 61 corridor and perfect-for-the-drive food is no mistake, in fact, the restaurant was opened in 1980 after comments from truckers about the need for a good meal stop along the way.

If you want to dine at a place with some true North Shore history, don’t miss Ryden’s Café just off Highway 61 near the Canadian border. The tradition of stopping for omelettes and burgers at this North Shore institution began at the old border crossing more than 50 years ago.

Since its opening in 1998, Dockside has become a destination for fresh and smoked fish (straight from Lake Superior), as well as a perfect lunch stop for everything from chowders to wraps. Beyond the daily fare, Dockside also has some special summer happenings. One of the popular events is the fish boil, which will take place twice this summer on July 25 and August 22. Fish Boils are a tradition in other coastal areas, and the Tofteys decided to give them a try in 2005.
Gunflint Tavern Offers Weekend Music
The weekend of Grand Marais’ Jazz Fest will see Grand Marais restaurant The GunFlint Tavern full of people and great music. The Tavern, located on the harbor in downtown Grand Marais, will host Gypsy jazz band Clearwater Hot Club Friday and Saturday nights, May 22-23. It’s a musical group that always draws a crowd.
